How do you know what the original profile was?

From the parts of it that never touched anything. Mounting faces, shielded corners and the areas under a bolt head stay at original size, and the surrounding geometry projects from them. Where a whole face has gone, the component it runs against usually defines it for us.

Can you measure how much has worn away?

Yes, and it is worth having. Comparing the scan against the rebuilt original gives a colour map and measured values showing where material has gone and how much. That tells you whether the wear is even, which is normal, or concentrated, which usually is not.

Should the replacement be the same shape?

Not always, and this is the moment to ask. If the wear is concentrated in one area, thickening it or changing the approach angle can extend the life considerably. We show you the pattern and let your engineers decide, because the duty is yours to judge.

Can you handle large or heavy components?

Yes, on site or here depending on weight and access. Large liners and plates are scanned in overlapping sections and merged. Tell us the dimensions and mass when you enquire so lifting and scan positions can be planned rather than improvised on the day.

Do you make the replacement?

For anything in plastic, yes. Wear parts are usually steel or a hard-faced alloy, so we produce the model and drawing and your fabricator or foundry makes it. Printing and finishing are in house, metal is not, and we would rather be plain about that.

How often should we scan a wear part?

Once properly to get the drawing, then at each change-out if you want the wear rate. Two or three cycles is enough to see a pattern, and after that a scan only earns its keep when something changes in the process or the material being handled.
