Materials chosen so they survive a shift, geometry that can be fitted the way it will really be fitted, and enough of them that a few can be destroyed. Will a prototype survive being used on a line?

In the right material, for long enough to learn something. Filled nylons and carbon fibre filled grades handle handling, oil and knocks for weeks rather than months. We build them to last the trial rather than the product life, and we will say how long that is likely to be.

How many prototypes should we make?

More than one. Three to five is usually right, so several stations can try it at once and one can be broken deliberately. Making a single precious prototype leads to it being treated carefully, which defeats the point of the exercise entirely.

How do you gather feedback from operators?

We supply the parts and a simple sheet, and your supervisor collects it. What operators say in the first hour is usually the most valuable input in the whole project, and it rarely reaches a design office. Ask them what annoyed them rather than what they thought.

How fast can the next version follow?

Two to four working days for a change to an existing model. That pace is what makes floor testing work, because feedback goes stale if the next version takes a month. Plan a trial as three short rounds rather than one long evaluation.

Can prototypes be run alongside production?

That is your call and your risk assessment. We will build to whatever you specify, including marking parts clearly as trial items so nothing gets mixed into stock. Anything safety related should be assessed by you before it goes near a running machine.

What if the prototype works well enough to keep?

It happens, and it is worth being deliberate about. A trial part is built for a trial rather than for two years of service. If you want to keep using it, tell us and we will make a proper version in a suitable material instead.
